HK5K Race Recap

by Haley on October 20, 2011

Yes, I entered and ran a 5k exactly one week after the Ironman. And no, it was not my fastest 5k (but it wasn’t my slowest 5k either!).  I was actually amazed at how LONG 5k felt. So much for that Ironman fitness! Luckily I got to run with some good friends, enjoy a beautiful fall day, and celebrate the life of a great person. Highlights of the run included, but were not limited to:

Hanging out on the start line with my recently engaged (congrats!) triathlon friends Scotty and Katie.

Running most of the race  at a leisurely pace with my All3Sports friends Ryan and Chris, only to out-sprint them in the last 10 feet (yes, I’m about as mature as a 9 year-old).

Catching up with my awesome co-worker Anne Collier and her roommate Palmer at the finish line. (Palmer’s first 5k – woo hoo!)

Watching my friend Sean collect his sweet HK5K age-group winner’s medal.

And of course, chilling with Sean’s girlfriend, Robin, and Atlanta Falcon’s owner, Arthur Blank, post-race.

All in all, it was a great day, and a great cause. And rumor is the HK5K is going to become an annual tradition, so I hope to see everyone again next year!

I’m headed to Colorado this weekend to visit some of my favorite people in the universe! My college teammates Kara, Kelley, and Claire are all living in the Centennial State right now, so another teammate, Melissa, and I decided to do a spur of the moment mini-reunion. We’re hoping to catch some swimming dual meet action (both Kelley and Claire are coaches), and I’ve been told there will be breweries involved, so you can rest assured, it’s going to be a good time! Have a great weekend!

I’ve done a 5K the week after all my 70.3s, I think it’s fine. :)

I have a 5k scheduled exactly a week after IMFL. This gives me hope that I will be able to walk it…. at least!
